On this Friday, November 15, 2024, the National Agency for Control and Financial Management of Football in France (DNCG) announced that the Lyon team is not allowed to sign players when the market for the purchase and sale of players will be opened in January.
This means that the club can avoid relegation while it gets its finances in line and shows that its finances are in good shape, as well as the way the club pays its staff, which will also be audited by the DNGC.
One of the solutions that Lyon may seek is to sell many of its key players in January, in order to have money in its accounts and to be able to retain the right to play in France's first division, Ligue 1.
The DNCG's decision comes after a meeting of the club's members, where the American investor John Textor, who already owns the club and Crystal Palace in the Premier League, told the media that the club has no financial problems, only it later turned out to be a coincidence when the verdict went out.
Olympique Lyon was founded in 1950, it is one of the championship teams in France. The club has won seven (7) Champions League titles, eight (8) Super Cup titles and the UEFA Intertoto Cup. Olympique Lyon is currently fifth in Ligue 1 and ninth in the Europa League.
