The legal team of Robert Sylvester Kelly, popularly known as R Kelly, filed an appeal in the United States Supreme Court, asking that their client be exempted from the sentences related to the crimes that the court sentenced him to in 2022.
R Kelly, 57 years old, became known as an artist and record producer, most of them know him in various songs that are popular around the world, including I believe I fly, Sign of a victory and others.
Kelly's lawyers say that his trial was marked by many errors and that these errors violated the rights of R Kelly and they continue to argue that it is unconstitutional.
Key points of appeal:
Improper jury selection: R Kelly's lawyers say there was collusion in the selection of the jury because of the flaws in the trial that led to bias.
Questionable evidence: The appeal objects to the admission of certain evidence that the accused admits, because it should have left the trial.
Testimony: R Kelly's lawyers asked for the testimony to be reviewed with discretion.
R Kelly's attorneys are asking for their client to be acquitted, or for a new trial, arguing that the first trial was not transparent.
It is not known whether the US Supreme Court will accept R Kelly's appeal, but if they do it could lead to a retrial, or his release.
R Kelly's fans are currently waiting to hear if the Supreme Court will cut the cord and listen to his art again.
