The match is scheduled for this Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 18:00 at the Amahoro Stadium, when Amavubi hosts Lesotho in the 6th match of the 2026 World Cup qualification that will be held in Mexico, Canada and the United States of America.
Before this match was played, in a press conference before it, the Assistant Coach of the Rwanda National Team, Eric Nshimiyimana said that the last match they lost to Nigeria was historic and that they know that the Lesotho match will be the one that will put them back on track.
He said, “We are confident that we will win the game we have because the players are in good shape. The fans will come to support us, the rest is up to us.”
He continued, “Where they arrived, they had points and we are looking for them, there are places where Nigeria also started without them or Lesotho but together they will get them.
I think we still have another chance to continue looking for those points, the problem is that we do not know what will happen but we have to have that hope and see how we can get points.”
After losing to Nigeria, which hurt the Rwandans who were packed at the Amahoro Stadium, Amavubi Captain, Bizimana Djihad asked Rwandans to ignore what happened and stay behind.
He said, “I do not think that Nigeria beating us will immediately stop people from supporting us. I think they will support us against Lesotho more than Nigeria, because I would say that out of all the possibilities, Lesotho is more likely to win than Nigeria.”
“If a team is capable of winning, then we need people to support us. What I would ask of them is not to be discouraged because we lost, but to come like they did last time against Nigeria.”
The last match held at Stade Amahoro, saw the Rwanda National Team lose 2-0 to the Super Eagles, causing the Amavubi to lose their top spot in the 2026 World Cup qualification matches.
The Amavubi, who are in 3rd place with 7 points in the group, will play Lesotho, who are in 5th place with 5 points, in Group C, led by South Africa.
The Rwanda Football Association, FERWAFA, said that admission to the match will be free for both the regular and the upper-tier.
