He said this in an interview with the media on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Stade Amahoro, I Remera, Torsten said that he still heard this request and initially thought it was a joke.
Torsten pointed out that in his eyes, the players who come to play in Rwanda are not better than Rwandans, but increasing their number would make the teams put pressure on the coaches when they are not productive.
He said: "The first best players will go to Europe, the second class will go to Europe in the lower classes, the third class will go to Asia and the major African championships, so where will they come to Rwanda?"
He went on to say that what is killing football in Rwanda are those who lead it, because they do not care about the young. Torsten suggested that the number of foreigners be reduced from six to three, so that teams can invest in three important players that Rwandans can learn from. He says that if the number of foreigners increases, he will not continue to watch the Rwanda Championship.
After the visit of the members of the management committee of the Rwanda Premier League to Tanzania, they gave the wish of FERWAFA asking that the players who play in the first class of foreigners from 6 to 12 of the game sheet.
But FERWAFA overturned that request, ruling that the number of players allowed to play in the 2024/25 season will remain at six. A few days ago we heard news that the Rwanda Premier League wrote to FERWAFA for the last time asking to increase the number of foreigners, but the answer is not yet known.
