On January 30, 2025, Tems posted a message on his wall X announcing that he had postponed his expected concert in Kigali, citing the insecurity in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, indicating that Rwanda is involved in this war between the DRC and M23.
He said, “In the past few days, I have promoted my concert in Rwanda, I did not know that there was a conflict between Rwanda and Congo. I never wanted to appear to be indifferent to what was happening in the world, and I apologize if it has reached that level. In short, I had no information about what was happening.”
Tems cancels the concert, pointing the finger at Rwanda, even though he is not in it, since his fellow artists have not yet performed in Rwanda and M23 was in the neighboring country of DRC, but it is suspected that he saw his concert as being like that of his colleague [Ruger] who was not included in the list and was still attended by a small number of people, considering that even though his tickets had been put on the market, only 270 had been sold, while the BK Arena can accommodate ten million people.
Tom Close was not dead after seeing Tems cancel the concert, on the morning of March 31, 2025, via X, he immediately told Rwandan artists and their fans to stop being arrogant.
He said, “Listeners, let’s stop being arrogant and hold a concert featuring Rwandan artists at the BK Arena on this date, please comment in the comments.”
This was as he had requested, many fans immediately responded saying that he would bring his whole family, others said that he would buy tickets for five people, and others continued to promise that they would attend, but until now we do not know if Tom Close will implement it. Tems plans to perform in South Africa on March 20, 2025. He will then perform in Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya.
