The 38-year-old, who was wanted by Rwandan authorities, was apprehended in Fort Worth on March 3, 2025, as announced by the US. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
On October 13, 2023, the Rwandan High Court sentenced Ishimwe Dieudonné to five years in prison after the prosecution appealed a previous ruling by the Nyarugenge Intermediate Court, which had acquitted him on December 2, 2022.
The High Court found Ishimwe guilty of coercing someone into sexual intercourse and soliciting or engaging in sexual exploitation.
He had been summoned to appear in court following an arrest warrant issued by the Rwandan government, according to ICE officials.
These officials further stated that Rwanda’s prosecution issued an arrest warrant for him on October 29, 2024.
Ishimwe had been residing in Fort Worth without valid legal documentation, although he had initially entered the United States lawfully.
His arrest was facilitated by intelligence provided by the FBI. ICE confirmed that Ishimwe remains in their custody as they determine the next steps.
