The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the Libyan National Team has been suspended and the Libyan Football Association has issued a fine of $50,000.
They announced this after the ethics committee in CAF found that the club violated the rules of conduct in its articles 31, 82 and 151. The club must pay the fines within 60 days.
The Nigerian national team went to Libya to play a match to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, but when it arrived in Tripoli, it lost its way to Benghazi and its luggage was seized, and the players spent more than ten hours in the Airport.
The captain of the Nigerian national team, William Troost-Ekong said that the players he led decided not to play the game that was supposed to connect them with Libya and asked the Nigerian government to listen and help them, and return to Nigeria. It was then done and the team returned without playing.
This decision to field the Libyan national team made Nigeria take first place in Group D with 10 points and get the ticket to CAN 2025, followed by Benin with six while Rwanda has five points. Libya is last in the group with one point.
