Nwabali shared the news of his mother’s death on his X handle on Wednesday evening. “Rip mom, worst year of my life already,” he wrote.
Before announcing the death of his mom, Nwabali had posted: “A very very crazy world indeed.” The goalkeeper, did not, however, give details of the cause of his mom’s death.
Just over a month ago Nwabali’s father passed away a few hours before the Super Eagles match against Rwanda in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification game in mid-November. He was excused from the game which the Super Eagles lost 2-1 to Rwanda.
Following his impressive performance for Nigeria at the 2023 AFCON Nwabali was nominated for CAF Goalkeeper of the Year award which was won by South Africa’s Ronwen Williams.
